Regulation of arterial blood pressure by means of drug infusion
Advance fuzzy-logic based closed-loop control
This application is an embedded control system for infused drug delivery.
The system comprises an infusion pump, a vital signs monitor and a controller which controls
the drug delivery. All three pieces of equipment communicate with each other.
The system maintains arterial blood pressure within a narrow gap of pre-established values,
lowering it in the cases that it is too high (hypertension) or avoiding sudden picks in
surveillance mode.
This system captures the arterial blood pressure signal, evaluates it, and according to the
measurement, updates every 20 seconds the dosage value in order to maintain the blood pressure
closed to the target gap.
Areas of use are:
Clinical:
Treatment of hypertensive emergencies
Treatment of Acute cardiac failure refractary to conventional procedures
Miocardial Infarction with cardiac failure
Surgical :
Paroxistic hypertension during surgical intervention
Controlled hypotension

Medicaldevices communications in critical care wards
VITAL is a newly formulated CEN pre-norm (CEN/TC251/PT21 ) which is a high level
protocol for the exchange of data between pieces of patient connected medical equipment.
It is currently approved by TC251 expecting formal approval of ENV status before December 1998.
VITAL works in conjunction with the new IEEE 1073 standards for bedside device.
RGB Medical Devices participates actively in the CEN and IEEE normalization groups.
RGB has been a major partner in a pan-european project called
AORTICS, as an effort sponsored
by the European commission . This project is providing implementation feedback to norms
developers of the CEN TC251. A later EC approved project called "VITAL" will become the
first real application for the norm.
The objective of VITAL is to prove that RGBs medical monitor as well as an infusion pump
can exchange information using VITAL international open norm, and that this scheme can
be used as a basis for a wider application using different medical devices from different
manufacturers.
